Why we built it for designers specifically

Most AI image tools are built for everyone, which means they're optimised for no one. Illustra is different. We made two decisions early on that shaped everything:

First, SVG output. A JPG illustration is useful. An SVG illustration is a design asset — you can resize it infinitely, recolor individual elements in Figma, and hand it to a developer without re-exporting. We made SVG a first-class output format, not an afterthought.

Second, before/after comparison. Seeing your original photo and the illustration side by side — with a draggable slider — means you can evaluate quality instantly. No toggling between tabs. No downloading to find out if it worked.

Illustra launches with four illustration styles:

• Flat design — clean geometric shapes, solid colors, no gradients. Perfect for UI mockups, product shots, and brand assets.

• Watercolor — soft brush strokes, bleeding edges, visible paper texture. Best for portraits, nature photography, and artistic prints.

• Anime — bold outlines, cel shading, vibrant colors. The most requested style by early testers by a wide margin.

• Pencil sketch — fine graphite lines, cross-hatching, hand-drawn charm. Timeless for portraits and editorial work.

More styles are in development — low poly, oil painting, and retro poster are coming in the next release.
